Two challenges

CO2 recycling

Recycling CO2 as part of a circular economy is a major issue for the future of the planet. 
The carbon credit market will take on considerable importance over the next few years.

 

Preservation of fish stocks

Aquaculture is booming. Its volume should soon exceed that of traditional fishing. 
Feed for aquaculture contains about 40% fishmeal.

Knowing that 4 to 5 kg of fish are needed to produce 1 kg of fishmeal, aquaculture, as well as poultry and pig farming, largely contribute to the pressure exerted on the world's fish stocks.

A solution

Spirulina

Spirulina (Arthrospira platensis) is a cyanobacterium (often called microalgae).

It is considered by the WHO as the best food for humanity in the 21st century and the most complete because of its nutritional richness.  


Substituting fishmeal
Studies have shown that even when added in low doses to their diet, spirulina has many benefits for farm animals: improved growth and survival rate, improved color and firmness of the flesh, better reproduction rate, lower use of antibiotics and reduction of the production costs.


Emission of carbon credits
Spirulina absorbs around 60 tonnes of CO2 per hectare per year, which represents 60,000 tonnes of CO2 per year for a farm of 1,000 hectares. This feature offers the possibility of issuing carbon credits.
